Essay for College Transfer

Dearly beloved readers: I am going through a transfer process. Don't bother commenting if you don't feel like it. HOWEVER... if you are so inclined, any comments you would like to share would be thoroughly appreciated. Essay:

Despite its location in the relatively large city of Greensboro, North Carolina, Guilford College has created for itself an oasis. On campus, there are acres of woods and meadowlands, geese, mocking birds, sparrows, and cicadas, constantly chirping. It is, without a doubt, a beautiful and peaceful campus. The architecture here only increases the grandeur of campus; Greco-Roman, Georgian, and Jeffersonian-style brick buildings stand on either side of brick sidewalks and a lush green central campus. The diversity of the Guilford student body reflects the peaceful diversity of the college environment. It is part of the college’s mission to support a wealth of racially, culturally, and ethnically diverse people. Students from every continent assemble at this liberal arts school to partake in the strong, competitive academic programs offered here. However, despite the externally obvious diversity of students, I have found a lack of range in certain internal values. The politics and religious views of students at Guilford are fairly homogenous. On campus, there is a relatively small Christian Fellowship group, a very small Hillel foundation, and a miniscule College Republicans group. Otherwise, Guilford is very politically liberal and concerned with religion as an almost exclusively academic subject. This lack of political and religious diversity seems to have lead to a great sense of isolation of the school from the Greensboro community as a whole. This stifles the number of older community members on campus and, in turn, leads to fewer mentors to guide students through real life struggles. Guilford certainly has an excellent academic program. With a strong emphasis on reading and writing, a low teacher-student ratio, and a successful academic advisor program, students here are capable of finding their own academic potential and reaching above their previous expectations for themselves. It is a wonderful place to learn, and a good place to make home. I have simply found myself outgrowing the college in a few essential ways, and I am looking to remedy that problem.
